In 1961 Walt Disney produced his 17th animated feature film, “101 Dalmatians,” based on Dodie Smith’s 1956 novel “The Hundred and One Dalmatians”. In February 2017, Thomas Kinkade Studios created a stunning new addition to the Disney Dreams Collection, Disney 101 Dalmatians. The Thomas Kinkade Disney Dreams Collection features the most beloved characters and Disney favorites.
Songwriter Roger Radcliffe swings his wife, Anita, as their dalmatians, Pongo and Perdita, snuggle together at their feet. Both couples are surrounded by Pongo and Perdita’s litter of 15 puppies plus 84 additional adopted puppies, making a whopping total of 101 dalmatians! Various dogs, a horse, and Sergeant Tibbs, a tabby cat, have helped rescue the puppies from the villainous Cruella De Vil due in part to the hard work of the canine gossip line, the “Twilight bark”. On Christmas day, the dogs have all crossed the Stour River and found their way back to Robert and Anita’s flat. Happy to all be reunited, Roger and Anita decide to use the money from Roger’s first big hit, a song about Cruella, to build a new home for themselves and all of their four-legged friends.
Roger and Anita’s romantic spark holds a viewer’s gaze when they first set eyes on Disney 101 Dalmatians, and fans of the movie will recognize that the painting is set in the very park where Roger and Anita first make each other’s acquaintance. The painting features England’s capitol city in 1961, the majestic city of London, with various famous landmarks such as the River Thames, Westminster Bridge, Big Ben, and Houses of Parliament, with Victoria Tower. Anita’s wealthy schoolmate, Cruella De Vil, looks on the scene from beside a tree alongside her henchmen, Jasper and Horace, while her car is parked in front of a row of Edwardian era houses. Together, the evil trio gaze menacingly at the happy human couple and all of their frolicking canines. Although the puppies have been rescued from her grasp, Cruella De Vil appears to still be scheming how to steal them and use their fur for coats.
