Micheal Blessing came up with the concept for the Neon Gunslingers series from a love of the figure and the nostalgic pull of a piece of iconic Americana: the neon sign. Though known as a figurative artist, one such sign in Montana caught Blessing’s attention and soon vintage neon began to come to life on his canvases.
While contemplating new subject matter one summer afternoon, he was struck with the idea to combine neon with iconic western figures. The end result is a series of larger than life symbolic and historical characters rendered in a new contemporary fine art style – the Neon West.
