HM Saffer Paintings

H.M. SAFFER II, a contemporary American painter based in Upstate New York, has a diverse range of creative endeavors. He was the chef and owner of two Parisian restaurants and a third location in Spain. In the music industry, he worked as a producer for Barclay Records and later Warner Brothers Production. During his time at Warner Brothers, he co-wrote the international hit song “Look What They’ve Done to My Song, Ma,” which was recorded by Ray Charles, Melanie, and other performers. Throughout his career, Saffer II has continued to paint. In the 1980s, he moved abroad again to study traditional Japanese brush painting with Japanese masters. He spent over a decade in Japan before relocating to New York, where he currently works and paints. Saffer II has taught at the Norman Rockwell Museum and at the collegiate level. His paintings are characterized by their texture and richness, balancing a sense of essential simplicity and quietude with pointillist mark-making.
