The Tang Vase is a classic form made by Ben Owen III. The two-handled jar has been a signature shape influenced by early Chinese ceramic forms made during the Tang Dynasty.
The scalloped pattern on the base directly reflects the heavy Asian influence in Ben III's approach to decoration and design, a common theme in his body of work. The scalloped pattern is commonly seen in early Chinese glazed pottery during the Song and Tang Dynasties as well as in early Japanese techniques.
Covered in a new Ben Owen Pottery proprietary glaze blend, Opal Blue, each piece displays a beautiful array of variegated hues. The glaze was named after the incredible natural color of blue opals.
