Among my favorite painting subjects are old mills. Such is my oil painting titled, "The Yates Mill Pond". The picturesque "Yates Mill" was built in 1756, and restored in the 1800s. Recently renovated, the water-powered grist mill on Steep Hill Creek has served Wake County, North Carolina for over 200 years. The Yates Mill County Park is now a center for education and research, with field classrooms, boardwalks, a 20 acre mill pond, and hiking trails through more than 600 acres of habitat.
