Blue birds of all kinds are undoubtably the favorite yard visitor of many people, including myself. In our area of Indiana we have the Eastern Blue Birds come and spend the summers, and I enjoy watching them return each spring.
Although they are beautiful and dainty looking little birds they can be surprising as they are very territorial and hold no punches when it comes to defending their nest and home ground. I don't have to go far for painting reference as we have blue bird houses mounted on several shaggy bark hickory trees in our lake-front yard, and my technique of blending transparent watercolor and gouache works out well in rendering them..
