This painting I did from a childhood memory. Every weekend, and most vacations we took when I was a kid, from 1940 to the early 1960's was at my grandparents place on Greybrook Lake, in Owen County, Indiana. As part of a TVA project the 75 acre lake was built in 1939, and still exist today. Grandpa had two lots side by side where they built two makeshift cabins, one was for he and grandma as a retirement home, and the second was for his kids to use an a weekend getaway, and we did. I have hundreds of fond memories from this place. One memory was the anticipation I felt as we approached the lake from the old graveled Jordan Village Road, stopping for ice at the bait house & general store, then proceeding for about a mile on a dirt lane through the barn yards, going through a couple gates, crossing rolling hill fields and finally topping a hill with a big'ole tree where we could get our first view of the lake. What a thrill it was every time.
